The suspect in the Charlotte rail murder case was released from prison during a mass inmate release authorized under a former Democratic governor, state GOP says.

Gregory Vogelsang was granted parole, and is set to have a follow up hearing next week. He was convicted of nearly 30 counts of kidnapping and sex crimes.

Medicaid is now paying for health care in jails and prisons, helping smooth inmates’ return to the community. Corrections and law enforcement officials say they’re all for it.
